The power of generative AI at your fingertips https://dotdigital.com/blog/winstonai-dotdigitals-ai-assistant-powered-by-gpt-3/ Mon, 03 Apr 2023 09:30:00 +0000 https://dotdigital.com/?p=52655 Artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t new to marketers. In fact, Dotdigital users already benefit from AI daily, using it to simplify their lives with smarter audience targeting, predictive analytics, and intelligent product recommendations – to name just a few.

Thanks to the likes of ChatGPT and Google Bard, I think we can all agree that 2023 to date has already felt like a quantum leap when it comes to AI. We knew from talking to our customers that they loved how these new tools were saving them time and upping the quality of their work.

So, we wanted to make it even easier for our customers to access this new generation of AI in our platform at a click of a button.

Enter, generative AI for Dotdigital.

Digital marketing powered by WinstonAI

WinstonAI encompasses all sorts of known and new smart technology in the Dotdigital platform. Most recently, we added a new power to the mix: Generative AI. For this, WinstonAI draws on Microsoft Azure’s generative AI technology (GPT-3.5) to offer suggestions and inspiration on how to take your campaign content to the next level. Built directly into the Dotdigital platform, WinstonAI can now easily provide you with hints, tips, and advice on how to improve your email marketing.

But what exactly is generative AI?

Generative AI is a form of machine learning (ML) that can produce different types of content. From text, audio, and imagery – generative AI can analyze huge amounts of data to generate highly relevant content. The leaps in technology made in recent years mean that the power of generative AI is now available to marketers in their day-to-day work – and we’ve incorporated this into the Dotdigital platform.

Computer screen with GPT-3.5 assistant built in

Unleash your creativity with AI

With WinstonAI, you can receive campaign feedback on your email content in real-time. Use this feedback to gain inspiration and find data-driven and creative improvements to increase engagement levels.

WinstonAI shows up when you need him most:

  • Email content: WinstonAI appears in the Dotdigital email editor and provides you with personalized recommendations on how to refine your copy. Whether that’s simplifying your language, adapting the tone to fit your message, or giving you valuable tips on how to make your content more engaging.
  • Subject line: Improve the open rates of your email campaigns with subject line recommendations. WinstonAI expertly analyzes up to 25 of your previous subject lines and provides tailored suggestions to resonate more effectively with your audience. You’ll receive 3 alternative solutions to choose from.

The benefits of WinstonAI

  • Get inspiration quickly. It’s impossible to always be on top of your game. WinstonAI is there for you when you need help getting campaign ideas off the ground.
  • Avoid writer’s block. Gone are the days of scratching your head, wondering what to write. Our AI assistant is always learning, so it will never run out of tips and suggestions.
  • Focus on what matters. Because he’s in your workspace, WinstonAI saves time, making your workday more efficient and freeing up your time to focus on the bigger picture.
  • Improve engagement and conversions. WinstonAI pulls from a vast pool of data and experience, giving you new ideas for campaigns you might not have thought of yet, ultimately leading to more engaging content that delivers conversions.
  • Simple and effective. Native in our email builder, you don’t have to worry about integrating new AI software into your existing martech stack, we’ve already done that for you.

What are WinstonAI users saying?

WinstonAI’s users across the globe praise its capacity to simplify email campaign content creation and improve employment rates. Hear firsthand from one of our many happy WinstonAI users, Alana Arthur, from Wittner Shoes in Australia:

Wittner Shoes’ Alana Arthur talks on WinstonAI.

How does WinstonAI’s generative AI capability work?

Behind the scenes, WinstonAI draws on generative AI technology from our long-time technology partner Microsoft Azure. Microsoft Azure was one of the early sponsors of OpenAI, one of the foremost innovators in this space, and the team behind ChatGPT.

We’re proud to work with Microsoft Azure on this because our relationship with them ensures we can deliver high-quality product features, great data governance, and security as standard, so you can be confident that all your data is protected and you’re adopting AI responsibly.

Creating hybrid experiences

We’ve been used to attending virtual events for the past three years, but now – we’re getting up close and personal again, as live and hybrid events return to our marketing calendars. Our new Cvent integration allows you to bring your event attendees into your marketing lists, so you can communicate with them before, during, and after an event.

Why is this important?

Events have always been a key element of the marketing mix for B2B brands. It offers a space for brands, prospects, and customers to build relationships, face-to-face, or virtually. 95% of marketers globally agree that live, in-person events offer the best opportunity to meet buyers and create real-life connections. 65% of buyers agree that attending an event has enabled them to better understand their product, therefore led to a purchase being completed.

How does it work?

The Cvent integration is a self-serve integration which you can access through the Dotdigital Integration hub and set up in no time at all. Use the integration to sync your event invitees, registrants, and attendees into address lists to contact them before, during, and after your event. It’s also possible to sync event data as an insight data collection.

You can:

  • Send reminders ahead of the event to attendees let them know how to get to the venue, find your stand amongst the crowd, or even just to ask them to confirm that they’re still able to attend.
  • Update your prospective buyers by SMS throughout an event to let them know what’s happening on your stand, and any keynote speakers you may have ready to meet and greet them.
  • Send them a roundup of the event after it’s over, including what you’re offering or any FAQ’s you picked up on the day.
  • Let prospective customers know of your next event they might wish to join you at.

Whatever your requirement, this integration from Cvent removes data silos and allows you to effectively and efficiently market your events.

Send engaging Trustpilot review invitations – directly through Dotdigital

User-generated content (UGC) is trusted by 85% of shoppers across the globe, and 89% of all consumers actively check product reviews ahead of making their final decision to purchase. With the latest addition to our integration with Trustpilot, you can now send fully customized review invites through Dotdigital as part of your marketing campaigns. Ask shoppers to review a product or service after it’s been delivered to their doorstep, with personalized and branded emails to get more, and better, reviews to use in your marketing.

How does it work?

You can build and send these emails as you would normally as part of a campaign or one-off send. Create the review invitation in Dotdigital’s drag-and-drop email editor, and set them to be triggered either 7, 14, or 30 days post-purchase, depending on what makes sense in your product lifecycle.

Operational change: saying goodbye to our Minsk colleagues https://dotdigital.com/blog/operational-change-saying-goodbye-to-our-minsk-colleagues/ Fri, 13 Jan 2023 09:21:27 +0000 https://dotdigital.com/?p=48631 Some of you may know that Dotdigital has had a highly skilled Engineering team in Minsk, Belarus, since early 2010.  It is with great sadness that as of the 15th of January 2023, we have closed our operation in the region, following Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Some may ask why this is of sadness, especially since the apparent support Belarus is giving Russia. The answer is plain and simple – people. When it comes to people, there was no support from our team members in Belarus for this war. Let me explain more…

For those who have never been, Minsk is a wonderful city – and I know this due to personal experience, because of the many visits myself and my team have made. Much of it was destroyed during World War 2, so most of it is relatively new, but there are still some pockets of buildings, architecture, and culture that survived.

As you can imagine as an ex-Soviet state there are lots of Russian influences: the main boulevard running through Minsk is wide and straight with buildings on either side that are not allowed to go over a certain height. Interesting fact: that building height is exactly half the road width! There is an amazing red church, an octopus ‘spaceship looking’ library, a huge opera house, and, like many other countries in the region including Ukraine, it has an amazing set of universities, many of which create exceptionally skilled engineers.

I remember my first visit to Belarus shortly after starting at Dotdigital in 2014 when I made a point of having one-to-ones with all of the team members in a nearby cafe and realized quite quickly that their dedication and skills were a great asset to Dotdigital. The team was kind enough to show me around Minsk, and I learned a lot about their culture, values, and independent pride.

With the Belarusian government elections in 2020, things started to change rapidly. The election was marred by claims of widespread electoral fraud. Numerous countries refused to accept the result of the election, as did the European Union which imposed sanctions on Belarusian officials deemed to be responsible for the fraud itself, as well as subsequent violence and repression of protests.

In 2021, the Belarusian military forcefully landed a flight that was transiting Belarus airspace in order to imprison a protestor. This soon meant that our teams could no longer visit our team members in Minsk by air (an EU-led no-fly zone across all of Belarus came into effect) nor could our colleagues come to visit our head office.

When COVID struck we all learned to work remotely better than ever before which enabled our operations to continue. However, with Russia’s attack on Ukraine at the start of 2022, some of which came from the Belarusian border, it became apparent that keeping our Belarus Engineering hub going longer term was becoming more difficult. Further sanctions by western governments meant that even paying our team was becoming more challenging.

We, therefore, took the decision early in 2022 to offer a relocation scheme for our team in Belarus to join our Engineering hub in Poland.

I am very pleased to say that with the scheme we have successfully relocated 65% (11) of our Belarusian team to Poland, enabling them to continue working for Dotdigital. Thanks to the Polish Government through the Polish Business Harbour scheme we were able to get visas for our team and with the help of our superstar Polish team our Belarusian team members were welcomed with open arms.

As I mentioned at the start of this, it is a sad day for Dotdigital as 5 of our team are unable to make the relocation work. They will always be a big part of our Dotfamily; many had long tenure but made the choice which was right for them, to not relocate.

We want to thank all of the team who are continuing with us and all those who have dedicated much time to building our fantastic products, websites, and more.  I hope to be able to see Minsk again one day but more importantly, I hope to once again see peace in Ukraine.

Key takeaways for businesses from our cross-channel marketing report https://dotdigital.com/blog/key-takeaways-for-businesses-from-our-cross-channel-marketing-report/ Sun, 06 Mar 2022 22:00:12 +0000 https://dotdigital.com/?p=30903

Key takeaways for businesses from our cross-channel marketing report

APAC report blog

Have you checked out our latest report out of Australia – The future of cross-channel marketing? If not, you are missing out on some serious insights on changing consumer behavior and their expectations from retailers.

The report covers trends and insights across four main areas: consumer psychology, brand awareness, the decision buying process, and customer loyalty. It details how the adoption of different marketing channels and tools has changed over time, reveals the gap between consumer expectations and experiences, and provides essential strategies to help retailers’ future-proof their businesses – all whilst navigating the unpredictable COVID-19 landscape.

That’s not all, the report also highlights critical data points relating to the Australian shopper’s customer journey, including:

• Preferred marketing channels for communications
• Factors contributing to unsubscribe rates and cart abandonment
• Expectations around personalization in marketing communications vs. reality
• Importance of brand values
• The significance of loyalty and how shoppers like to be rewarded for it

Email is still the O.G.

Today, marketers have various choices with an increasing option of channels and tools at their disposal. However, email largely remains the most influential marketing channel (69%) to cater to tailor-made experiences.

While email is shaping customers’ purchase decisions, results also show that 70% of people surveyed note they are likely to unsubscribe if they get too many emails. Brands need to understand exactly how their audiences wants to be marketed to. The importance of email should be taken seriously, but brands should still consider alternative channels to reach more consumers.

Why consumers abandon cart

The cost of shipping is the highest contributor to cart abandonment. When asked about the top reason that leads consumers to abandon an online shopping cart, 57% listed higher shipping costs that were not visible from the outset.

Retailers need to ensure that not only is their cost of shipping reasonable, but also that it is clearly visible. Communication and transparency are key. Check out our exclusive abandon cart report for a deep dive.

Get personal with your customers

Australian shoppers feel brands have a long way to go when it comes to personalization, and there is room for improvement. According to the report, more than half the people surveyed say that their marketing communications are somewhat personalized, while one-third think their emails are not personalized at all.

We constantly emphasize the need for effective segmentation and personalization while creating campaigns, to ensure our clients strike the right note with customers through tailored messaging.

Live chat is important for conversion

Shoppers would like to see more in-person assistance via live chat options on retailer websites. The majority (56%) use it to ask for advice. It is therefore an important tool in the purchase and conversion process, and something retailers need to consider.

Be clear on brand values

Brand values play a crucial role for customers during a purchasing decision. Interestingly, more than two-thirds of Australian shoppers think brands are not doing enough to showcase what they stand for. Thirty percent of consumers surveyed take a brand’s stance on sustainability into consideration when making a purchase decision.

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword and shoppers increasingly make purchase decisions based on the positive social, economic, and environmental impact of a brand. This shift in consumer behavior should drive marketers to look at the sustainability of their own practices.

At Dotdigital, we take our sustainability efforts very seriously and are proud to be the first carbon-neutral, ISO 14001 certified marketing automation platform in the world.

Loyalty for a price

A loyalty program is undoubtedly an excellent way for brands to build stronger and lifelong brand advocates. But, do customers receive expected perks? Results show that almost all shoppers (94%) want rewards/discounts for their loyalty.

It’s evident that a reciprocal relationship is valued, and brands should keep that in consideration when launching a loyalty program. Check out how Cellar One redefined its customer engagement with automated loyalty campaigns.

A little help from our friends

An overwhelming 72% of consumers say that reviews are key to the decision-making process when purchasing products or engaging with brands. Word-of-mouth was the second most important factor in the decision to purchase, with 79% of those surveyed likely to recommend a preferred brand to others.

A positive customer experience is not only about a single customer journey. It’s about the ripple effect of customers telling their friends, family, and co-workers. Furthermore, if brands do not encourage product or service reviews, now is the time to rethink that strategy and incorporate product reviews into the marketing mix.

We’ve produced this report to get our finger on the pulse of Australian consumer purchasing habits, to ensure we are helping our clients deliver the ultimate customer experience – delivering the right message through the right channel, at the right time, to the right person.

Raise the bar with customer intent https://dotdigital.com/blog/raise-the-bar-with-customer-intent/ Fri, 30 Apr 2021 00:00:00 +0000 https://dot.tiltedchair.co/raise-the-bar-with-customer-intent/ Digital engagement is on the rise. Marketers are marketing more, and in turn, consumers are engaging with more digital content than ever.

Online event engagement is a great example of this. Event management platform Eventbrite reported that in 2020 nearly 75 million people registered for more than one million virtual events, logging an impressive combined 100 million hours in attendance. By November 2020, we were spending 34x more time attending online events than in January of the same year.

Similar trends can be observed across email engagement and purchase behavior too. We analyzed Dotdigital customer data in June last year and found that some industries (healthcare, utility providers, technology hardware, and apparel & fashion in particular) are seeing triple-digit increases across their email opens and clicks.

To top it all off, this is translating into increased online purchase activity too. With online sales growing by 46% over a single year. All sounds great, right? These statistics don’t tell the full story of course. We’re all consuming more content digitally, but (in most cases at least) our wallets and minds are the same ‘size’!

So this means that more brands are vying for that same share of mind and share of wallet. We’re spending more time looking at content from the brands we love (according to Yotpo 31% of consumers now claim to be loyal to 6-10 brands versus 26% in 2019), but this doesn’t always translate into a readiness to buy.

New channels and tools can offer an excellent return on investment, but only if you’re targeting the right people (the ones that are really ‘into’ you and your product, then and there). Another interesting thought by Wang and Head (2005) in the “Innovative Marketing Journal” raises that the consumer market is non-contractual, and customers may not value lifetime relationships as we think they do. All of these trends combined can be expensive to marketers.

Marketers can however afford to be choosier with who they remarket to, and through what means. There’s a need to better qualify what we class as ‘engagement’ and better identify propensity to act or buy.

Drumroll, please…

By all accounts now is no time to be resting on our laurels, the latest Dotdigital release is hot off the press and brings all our customers new ways to uncover meaningful, profitable opportunities as they arise.

Uncover emerging opportunities.

With eRFM. Understanding when it’s time to act requires insight into the purchase cycles of your customers, and an ability to act on the high-intent signals that they give you. Retargeting for loyalty is possible, but you need a workflow that will help you identify previously missed opportunities as they arise. And this is where eRFM and the new Opportunities dashboard come into play.

eRFM is a holistic behavioral model that presents you with customer personas which are graded based on levels of purchase intent and intent signals. At the core of the model is the notion of a customer decision window. What a customer viewed on your website yesterday is far more relevant (to you and them), than what they browsed six months ago.

The Opportunities Dashboard is where your customers are displayed in a highly visual and actionable way, grouped together based on their purchase profile and how likely to buy they are. The dashboard lets you find tomorrow’s customers today, and drive a more profitable customer segmentation strategy.

using eRFM to recognise customer intent

Deliver next-gen shopping experiences.

With PWA for Magento. The number of Magento stores going ‘headless’ is on the rise, and for good reason. PWA storefronts as they’re known, deliver on a host of shopping experience improvements. From increased mobile usage to improved site speeds (read: improved conversion rates), PWA implementations help merchants deliver better online experiences all-round and in turn impact marketing ROI for the better too.

With our latest product release, Magento merchants running a headless storefront can now benefit from the same #1 integration, regardless of their chosen implementation.

Headless ecommerce with Magento PWA

Seamlessly manage shared experiences.

With Eventbrite. Eventbrite is one of the most used events management and ticketing services around and has helped a number of industries (particularly those hardest hit in 2020) continue to deliver engaging experiences to their audiences.

So we couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to add not one, but two Eventbrite integrations to our Integration Hub. With it, marketers can seamlessly manage events marketing and after-event experiences. The ability to capture attendees as they check-in or -out makes it an incredibly powerful way to engage in-the-moment. This allows marketers to follow up post-event with an email containing highlights and next steps, or even an SMS containing a voucher for that coffee you promised as a Thank You for their time.

Make meaningful customer engagements

Dotdigital gives you all the tools you need to act when it matters most. To find out more about our latest product release, you can get the full low-down here.
